Help

Find an answer here, or listen to it. Tap a group to open it.

Start here

How do I say everything at once?

Tap the box, then talk or type everything on your mind, in any order.

Tap Organize it. Sayso sorts it into Shopping, Tasks, Plans, Saved and Other.

If sorting does not work, your words stay in the box. You lose nothing.

How do I change my list by talking?

Tap the microphone and talk. Say add, tick, delete or read. To end it, say stop.

Before Sayso deletes something by voice, it asks you to say yes or no.

After a delete, say undo to bring it back.

If your phone has no microphone, or the browser cannot take voice, you can type instead.

How do I understand a letter or a photo?

Tap Photograph a letter or form, and take a picture.

Sayso tells you in plain words what it is and what it asks of you, in your language.

It can get things wrong. Check anything important against the original.

The original is one tap away. Tap See the original.

How do I fill in a form?

Photograph the form or choose its file. Sayso asks one question at a time, in your language.

It explains what a form asks, but never tells you what to answer.

You can stop any time. Nothing you answer is lost, because it is in Saved.

A fillable PDF comes back filled in. A photo or a flat PDF cannot be typed into, so you get every answer on one sheet to copy across.

How does Say it for me work?

Say it for me helps you talk with someone face to face, in another language.

Choose the language they speak. Tap, say what you need, and Sayso shows it in their language.

Then it is their turn. They speak, and Sayso shows you what they said.

Check numbers with them. Sayso may change one, and it tells you when it is not sure.

How does Sayso make shopping easy?

Your shopping is grouped by the part of the shop, with a picture beside each thing.

You can switch to the order you added things, with the chip above your shopping list.

Choose how the list looks in Settings: pictures and words, pictures only, or words only.

How do I get reminders?

Nothing arrives unless you turn reminders on in Settings.

Then Sayso reminds you an hour before, or at 9 in the morning for a day with no time.

On iPhone, add Sayso to your Home Screen first. Then this works.

If reminders are turned off for Sayso in your phone's settings, turn them on there. Some phones cannot do reminders from a web app.

How does Sayso help with a hard task?

On a big task, tap Help me start. Sayso finds a small first step.

You can ask for more small steps, and tick each one.

For a call, tap Get ready for the call. You get a card with who to call and three things to say.

After the call, say what they said, and save it to your list.

How do I find where I put something?

Tell Sayso where you put a thing. Ask later, and it answers.

It answers with the place and when you told it.

If you never told it, Sayso says so.

Where things are has a list of its own. You can read it aloud, change an entry or delete it.

How do I send my list?

Tap Share. Your list goes through your phone's own share menu.

The other person can tick things and send the list back.

When it comes back, you see what changed. Take everything, take nothing, or decide each one.

You can put your list back the way it was.

How do I keep a copy somewhere safe?

Your list lives only on this phone.

To keep a copy, open More, then tap Keep a copy somewhere safe.

The copy goes where you choose, through your phone's share menu. Sayso never sees it.

To bring a copy back, use Bring back a copy.

How do I change my language?

Sayso works in twenty languages. You can change it any time in Settings.

Until you choose, Sayso uses your phone's language.

The language sets what Sayso listens for and reads back.

What is Sayso?

Sayso is a place to say what is on your mind, in one breath, and have it come out sorted.

Talk or type, whichever is easier.

It sorts everything into Shopping, Tasks, Plans, Saved and Other.

What happens the first time?

The first time, Sayso asks which language you speak.

Then say or type everything at once, and tap Organize it.

Before your first document, Sayso shows a short notice. Read it and tap Got it.

Which phones and browsers work?

Sayso is a web page. Open it in your phone's browser and start talking.

Some browsers cannot take voice. Then Sayso says so, and you can type instead.

Reminders from a web app work on some phones only. On iPhone, add Sayso to your Home Screen first.

Without the Home Screen, an iPhone can lose your list after 7 days of not opening Safari.

How do I add Sayso to my home screen?

On iPhone, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.

On iPad, it is the same: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.

On Android, Sayso offers an Add to Home Screen button. Tap it.

Then your list is always one tap away.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no account.

Your list is saved only on this phone.

Because there is no account, another phone does not see your list. Send it, or keep a copy and bring it back there.

Talking and typing

Which languages can I use?

Sayso works in twenty languages, each shown here in its own script.

Arabic, Persian and Urdu are written from right to left.

Does Sayso understand my accent?

Sayso listens with a speech service chosen for accents.

Choose your language in Settings. Getting this right matters more than anything else for accuracy.

Sometimes Sayso listens with your phone's own speech recognition instead. In Chrome that may send your voice to Google.

What happens when I talk for a long time?

Near the end of a recording, Sayso counts down the seconds left.

Then it writes down what you said.

If it heard nothing, it tells you, and you can try again or type.

What if the screen turns off while I talk?

Listening stops when the screen goes off.

What you said is kept in the box. Tap the microphone to go on.

Can I type instead of talking?

Yes. Everything you can say, you can type in the same box.

When voice does not work, Sayso says you can type instead.

Which words can I say to Sayso?

Say stop, cancel, never mind, undo, yes or no.

Say louder or slower while Sayso reads to you. Say read it back to hear your list again.

Say help to hear what you can say.

Before a delete, Sayso asks you to say yes or no. After it, say undo to put it back.

Can I keep talking without tapping again?

Yes. In Settings, turn on One tap starts a conversation.

Tap the microphone once and talk. Sayso answers and keeps listening.

How Sayso sorts

What are the five lists?

Shopping, Tasks, Plans, Saved and Other.

Shopping asks how many. Tasks ask for nothing.

Plans ask for a time and a place.

Saved holds notes, documents and recipes. A recipe asks for its steps. Other asks for nothing.

What are a Plan's steps?

A Plan can have steps. They show as a checklist under it, and ticked steps are struck.

Ticking every step does not finish the Plan itself.

Why does Sayso ask me questions?

Sayso asks only for what is missing.

It asks one small question at a time, and never more than three.

You can turn this off with Ask about missing details in Settings.

To check later, open More and tap Check for missing details.

What is Needs your attention?

If Sayso could not understand an item, it asks what you meant, before anything else.

The item stays under Needs your attention until you fix it.

Why are my words still in the box?

If Sayso cannot sort what you said, your words stay in the box.

Tap to try again, or say it differently.

With no signal, Sayso keeps what you said on this phone and sorts it when the signal is back.

What if I say the same thing twice?

When you tap Organize it, Sayso also looks at your most recent items.

That lets it match new items with old ones.

Shopping

What are the parts of the shop?

The parts are Fruit and vegetables, Bread and bakery, Fridge, Meat and fish, Frozen and Cupboard.

Then Drinks, Snacks and sweets, Household and cleaning, Health and beauty, Baby, Pets and Other things.

Use the chip above your shopping list to switch between By part of the shop and In the order I added.

You can move a thing to another part from its sheet.

How do I say how many?

Say a number with the thing, for example 2 kg of milk.

If a Shopping item has no number, Sayso asks how many.

With a number, it shows as Milk — 2 kg and nothing more is asked.

Can I see pictures, words, or both?

Yes. In Settings, choose Picture mode.

Pictures and words shows both. Pictures only shows pictures. Off shows words only.

In pictures only, the details are hidden, such as a time and place.

What are the things I usually buy?

Sayso learns what you usually buy as you tick things off.

When you finish, it can offer those things. Nothing is added until you tap it.

You can tell Sayso to stop suggesting a thing, or turn suggestions off in Settings.

Your list

How do I tick something off?

Tap the tick on the item. Tap it again to bring it back.

How do I undo a change?

After you remove something, Sayso shows Undo. Tap it to bring it back.

Clearing your whole list can be undone too, but only before you do anything else.

By voice, say undo.

How do I change an item?

Tap the item to open its sheet.

There you can change its text, category, how many, unit, variety, when and where.

How do I delete something?

Open the item and tap Delete, or tap its remove button.

Or say delete, and Sayso asks you to say yes first.

How do I clear my whole list?

Open More and tap Clear all.

It clears your whole list. You can undo it only straight away, before you do anything else.

How do I have my list read aloud?

Tap Read aloud to hear your whole list. Tap Stop to end it.

Each list has a button that reads just that list.

In Settings you can choose the reading speed and the voice.

Can I make the text bigger or use dark mode?

Yes. In Settings, choose Text size: Normal, Large or Huge.

Choose Theme: Match my phone, Light or Dark.

How do I use my list on another phone?

There is no account, so your list is on this phone only.

Send the list with Share, or keep a copy and bring it back on the other phone.

Dates, reminders and the calendar

What does due soon mean?

Sayso tells you when something is due today or tomorrow, or was due yesterday.

It reads a date from your words, such as Saturday 10am.

How do I turn reminders on?

Sayso may ask if you want reminders. You can also turn them on in Settings, under Remind me before things are due.

It works with Sayso closed.

If it fails, Sayso says so, and you can try again later.

What does the server know about my reminders?

If you turn reminders on, a wake-up address and your reminder times are stored on Cloudflare's servers.

It is never what the reminder says.

It is deleted after 400 days, or as soon as you turn reminders off.

Can Sayso remind me about medicine?

Photograph your pharmacy label. Sayso reads it and shows what it understood.

You check it against your label, and only then set the reminders.

Reminders need a signal, and can come up to 5 minutes after the time.

Sayso only copies your label. Check with your pharmacy.

How do I add something to my calendar?

On a plan, tap Add to calendar. It goes into your phone's own calendar.

If the plan changes later, Sayso tells you your calendar has the old time, and you can send it again.

Your calendar may keep the old one too, so delete it there.

Why does Sayso ask me to check a date?

When a date could be read more than one way, Sayso shows how it read it.

It says check it, and you can change it.

If the phrase names more than one day, it asks you to check that too.

Can something repeat?

Yes. A thing can repeat every day, week, month or year.

Sayso shows when it is next. Tap Stop repeating to end it.

Letters, photos and forms

What can I give Sayso to read?

A photograph, a PDF or a text file. One button, Photograph a letter or form, opens the way in.

You can also share a file or text to Sayso from another app.

Sayso needs a connection to read a document. Your list still works.

What do I get back?

Plain words about what it is and what it asks of you.

If it needs nothing from you, it says so.

You can save it to Saved, and walk through it one step at a time.

Can I see the original?

Yes. Tap See the original, or Open the original.

The original is kept on this phone. If there is no room left, the words are saved without it.

Can a letter add things to my lists?

Ingredients can go to Shopping with Add the ingredients to Shopping.

A job can go to Tasks with Add this job to Tasks.

A deadline can go to Plans with Put the deadline in Plans.

What is the notice before my first document?

Sayso reads your document and puts it in plain words. It can get things wrong.

Check anything important against the original.

To see the notice again, use Show that notice again in Settings.

How do forms work in my language?

A form asks you in your language. Your answers are written in the form's language.

At the end, check the answers. Sayso types exactly these into the form.

If an answer is longer than its box, the whole answer goes on an extra page at the end of the file.

Can I ask a question about a document?

Yes. Tap Ask a question about this, then type or say your question.

Sayso answers only about this document, and tells you what the document says.

It does not give legal, immigration or tax advice. Check anything important against the original.

Can Sayso help me answer a letter?

Yes. Tap Answer this letter and say what you want to say, in your own words.

Sayso writes only what you said. Read it before you send it.

Add your name at the end before you send it.

Can I go through a recipe one step at a time?

Yes. Tap One at a time. Sayso shows one step with its position, like Step 2 of 5.

Say next, back or again, or tap the buttons.

Can I tap a word to hear it?

Yes. Tap any word to hear it and see what it means.

What will Sayso never do?

Sayso never decides for you.

It explains what a form asks, but never tells you what to answer.

It does not give medical, legal, immigration or tax advice.

Keeping a copy

Why should I keep a copy?

Everything you make in Sayso is kept on this phone.

That lets it work without internet, and keeps your documents private.

If this phone is lost, or its browser data is cleared, what is here goes with it.

Sayso cannot bring it back for you, because Sayso never had a copy.

Where does the copy go?

It goes where you choose, through your phone's share menu, such as your own cloud or files.

Sayso never sees it.

Photographs cannot always come along. Then your words are copied as text.

How do I bring a copy back?

Use Bring back a copy and choose the copy.

If the copy cannot be read all the way through, nothing is changed.

If it was made by a newer Sayso, update Sayso and try again.

Language

How does Sayso pick my language?

The first time, Sayso asks which language you speak.

If you do not choose, it uses your phone's language.

If it hears you speak another language, it offers to switch. You say yes or no.

How do I change the language?

Open Settings and choose Language.

On these pages, use the Language menu at the bottom.

What does my language change?

The screen, and what Sayso listens for and reads back.

Letters are explained in your language, whatever language they are written in.

A form asks you in your language.

A word Sayso has not translated yet is shown in English, never left blank.

Can I see my list in another language?

Yes. Tap Show the list in another language.

Your own words stay as you said them. Tap Show what I said to see them.

Privacy

What happens to my words?

Your list is saved only on your phone.

What you ask Sayso to sort, read or hear is sent to a service to do that one job.

Sayso has no accounts and keeps no copy of your list. It sets no cookies, and has no advertising or tracking.

The Privacy page lists each service and where it goes.

  • Sayso's helper didn't answer. Say it again.
  • Sayso's helper is busy. Try again in a minute.
  • Sorry — what would you like me to do?

The speech service or the helper did not answer, or is busy. Your words are safe.

Try again in a minute, or type it. Sometimes Sayso listens with your phone's own listening for now.

Nothing sorts

  • That's a lot of sorting in one go — your words are safe here. Try again in a few minutes.
  • That was a long one — say a bit less and Organize it again.
  • Couldn't reach Sayso just now — your words are still here. Tap to try again.
  • Couldn't sort that — tap to try again.
  • Couldn't make anything of that — your words are still here. Try saying it differently.
  • Add a note first.

Your words stay in the box. Tap to try again.

After a lot of sorting in one go, wait a few minutes. If a note was too long, say a bit less.

If Sayso could not make anything of it, say it differently.

There is no signal

  • No signal — everything still works. Anything you say is kept and sorted when the signal is back.
  • No signal — Sayso kept what you said on this phone. It sorts it when the signal is back.
  • No signal — I kept that. I'll sort it when the signal is back.
  • This phone can't keep recordings — type it, and Sayso keeps the words.
  • Sayso is already keeping 20 things. Wait for a signal, or type it.
  • This phone is full — Sayso couldn't keep that. Type it instead.
  • One recording had no words in it.
  • Sayso has sorted a lot today — these wait until later.

Your list works with no signal. What you say is kept on this phone and sorted when the signal is back.

If the phone cannot keep a recording, or is full, type it instead.

If Sayso has sorted a lot today, what is kept waits until later.

My list looks empty

  • Nothing yet — say or type what's on your mind above.
  • This list was saved by a newer version of Sayso and is shown read-only here, so nothing gets overwritten or lost.

A new list is empty until you say or type something.

A list saved by a newer Sayso is shown read-only, so nothing gets overwritten.

If you cleared this site's data in your browser, the list went with it. Bring back a copy if you kept one.

Sayso cannot save

  • Sayso can't save your list on this device right now — it still works, but will be gone if you close this tab.
  • Couldn't keep that on this phone. Your words are still here.
  • Could not save a copy.
  • Your phone could not save the list, so nothing was changed.
  • Your phone could not store the photograph, so nothing was changed.

Your phone is not letting Sayso save. Sayso still works, but the list is gone if you close the tab.

Private browsing, or a full phone, can cause this. Do not close the tab. Open More, tap Copy as text, and paste your list somewhere safe. Then free some space.

A copy or a share did not work

  • That copy could not be read all the way through, so nothing was changed.
  • That copy was made by a newer Sayso. Update Sayso, then try again.
  • Could not copy.
  • Could not share.
  • This list is too long to send in a message. Send it as a file instead.
  • This link could not be opened.
  • Your words were copied as text. Photographs cannot come along this way.

When a copy cannot be read, nothing is changed.

A copy from a newer Sayso needs an update first.

A list too long for a message can be sent as a file instead.

A letter or photo would not read

  • Sayso needs a connection to read a document. Your list still works.
  • That file is too big for Sayso to read. A photograph of one page usually works.
  • Sayso can read photographs, PDFs and text files. It can't read this one.
  • Sayso couldn't find any words in this picture. A closer photo, in better light, usually works.
  • The original picture isn't on this phone any more.
  • There's no room left on this phone for more originals. The words are saved.
  • No connection — your question is kept here. Tap Ask when you're back online.
  • Sayso couldn't answer just now. Your question is still here.
  • That question is too long — try it shorter.
  • That's the most questions for now — close and reopen to ask more.
  • Sayso only answers questions about this document.
  • Sayso can't help with that.
  • No signal — Sayso kept what you shared. It opens it when the signal is back.
  • Nothing came through. Try sharing it again.
  • Sayso couldn’t open what you shared. Try sharing it again.
  • Sayso opened the first one. Share the others one at a time.

A photograph of one page usually works. A closer photo, in better light, helps.

Reading a document needs a signal. Your list still works without one.

Questions about a document are only about that document, and only so many at a time.

A form would not fill

  • This is a picture, so Sayso can't type into it. At the end you'll get every answer on one sheet to copy across.
  • This PDF has no boxes to type into. At the end you'll get every answer on one sheet to copy across.
  • Sayso can't type this alphabet into the file yet. At the end you'll get every answer on one sheet to copy across.
  • Copy this one across yourself — Sayso couldn't find its box.
  • Sayso couldn't put your answers into the form's language just now. They're all here in your own words.
  • The original file isn't on this phone any more.
  • This phone can't hand the file back. Your answers are here to copy.
  • Sayso couldn't fill this file. Your answers are here to copy.
  • Sayso can't see every choice on this one — write the answer that's right for you.

When Sayso cannot type into the file, every answer is on one sheet to copy across.

If the translation fails, your answers are still here in your own words. Tap Try again.

An answer, a call card or a first step failed

  • Say or type what you want to answer first.
  • That’s a lot at once — try it shorter.
  • Sayso can only write what you say is true. It can’t write that.
  • That doesn’t sound like an answer to this letter. Say what you want to tell them.
  • Sayso’s answer had a number you didn’t say, so it isn’t shown. Say your answer again, and say any number yourself.
  • Sayso needs the letter’s picture to answer it. Photograph the letter again.
  • Sayso couldn’t write the answer right now. Your words are still here — try again.
  • No signal — your words are still here. Try again when you’re back online.

  • Nothing in that needs saving. Say what was agreed — for example, the day they’re coming.
  • Say or type what they said first.

  • Sayso can’t help with that call.
  • Sayso couldn’t make the card right now. Try again.
  • Sayso couldn’t save that right now. Your words are still here — try again.
  • No signal — the call card needs a signal the first time. Try again when you’re back online.
  • Sayso couldn’t find a first step right now. Try again.
  • No signal — try again when you’re back online.
  • Sayso can’t split this one into steps.

Your words are still here. Try again, or when you are back online.

Sayso writes only what you say is true. Say any number yourself.

For a call card, add who to call to the task.

Translating or hearing a word did not work

  • No signal — Sayso can’t translate right now. Your words are still in the box.
  • No signal — Sayso can’t translate right now.
  • Sayso is busy right now. Try again in a minute.
  • Sayso couldn't translate the list just now. Your own words are shown.
  • Some things aren't translated yet — they show as you said them.
  • This phone can't read aloud, so here it is on screen.

These need a signal. If Sayso is busy, try again in a minute.

When a list is not translated, your own words are shown.

Reminders do not work

  • Sayso couldn't turn reminders on just now. Try again later.
  • Reminders are turned off for Sayso in your phone's settings.
  • On iPhone, add Sayso to your Home Screen first, then this works.
  • This phone can't do reminders from a web app.
  • Sayso can only set reminders from labels in English for now.
  • This doesn’t look like a pharmacy label.
  • Sayso couldn’t read this label. Try a clearer photo, in good light.
  • Sayso is busy right now. Try again in a minute.
  • Sayso could not read clear times on this label, so it will not set reminders.
  • Sayso read this label two ways and they don’t match, so it will not set reminders.
  • This label says to take it only when needed, so there is no set time for a reminder.
  • Two reminders can’t be at the same time.
  • Sayso can hold up to 400 medicine reminders at once. Stop or shorten one first.
  • Sayso won’t set reminders for this medicine. Please ask your pharmacist.

Reminders need a phone that can do them from a web app. On iPhone, add Sayso to your Home Screen first.

If they are turned off for Sayso in your phone's settings, turn them on there.

For medicine, Sayso sets reminders only when the label is clear and you agree it matches. Ask your pharmacist if unsure.

The calendar did not work

  • This phone can't add to a calendar from here.

This phone cannot add to a calendar from here.

Sayso says there is nothing to do

  • Nothing to clear.
  • Nothing to copy yet.
  • Nothing to share yet.
  • Nothing left to read.
  • Nothing needs a detail right now.
  • I can't do that by voice yet.
  • Your list can't be changed right now.
  • Nothing to undo.
  • I can't find that on your list.
  • Tap the share button — your phone asks me to.

These mean the list has nothing for that button, or Sayso cannot do that by voice yet.

Some things need a tap on the screen, such as the share button.
